These are set each year by government and is the amount patients contribute to their care. After examination any treatment required is explained and the relevant patient contribution is explained. Some patients do not need to pay these charges or may get help with the costs.

Examples of patients who do not contribute :
Patients under 18 years
under 19 and receiving full-time education
pregnant or a mother who has had a baby in the previous 12 months
An NHS Dentist carries out your treatment while staying in an NHS hospital
an NHS Hospital Dental Service outpatient (dentures or bridges may have to be paid for)
You also do not have to pay if
when the treatment starts, or when you are asked to pay you are included in an award (as a claimant, partner, or dependent person under 20) of :
Income Support
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
Pension Credit guarantee credit
Universal credit and for the last assessment period there were no earnings or earnings within the allowed limit
OR
you are named on a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate, or you are entitled to an NHS tax credit exemption certificate
you are named on a valid HC2 certificate
Please note that savings credit on its own does not entitle patients to free treatment.
